CyberBBS Quick-Start Guide for New Users

IMPORTANT NOTE:

     Cyberspace uses a lot of commands, and all of them are preceeded by a
     /. all except the word look. Please remember to start your command
     word with a / when working in cyberspace.


Looking at things:
 
           Look at the screen. It is divided into 3 different areas. one
           is the room description, and you will see the name of the room
           over it. The box right underneath of it is labled objects, and
           the box under that is labled exits. To look at something in 
           either the exits box or the objects box, type   look <name>.
           (Example:   Look tree    look flat tire    look Elephant)
           To look at the whole room again, just type   look  by itself.

Moveing around:

           Cyberspace is made of rooms connected together with exits. Look
           at the exits box. In it you will see several, or maybe just one
           exit name(s). to use the exit you decide on, just type it's 
           name exactly the way it is spelled in that box.
           (Example:
           
           Transfer Area, To the Lighthouse, Enter a cave....
            
           to go through the exit to the cave, type   enter a cave....
           to go through the exit to the transfer area, type  Transfer Area)


/DIM:
     This command will allow you to dim all the output if the bold colors
start to strain your eyes.


/ANSI:
     This command will turn the Ansi off, if you don't want it on or turn
it on if you accidently chose no ansi at logon.


                           Message Base Commands


/SUBSCRIBE

     This command will show you a list of all the message bases in
cyberspace and give you a description of each. You will be able, at the
same time, to decide whether to add each base to your newscan or not. Keep
in mind that there may be bases that users can't subscribe to. These
might be things like a grafitti wall in a dungeon adventure and such. For
those bases, you will just have to go to where they are to read them.




/SCAN <name>
     
     This command allows you to read the messages on a message base. Do NOT
type /Scan mesbase: <name> or /scan mesbase. Instead, type only the name of
the message base after the command /scan.
 (Example:  /scan general announcements  /scan silly talk)
     ONce you have started the message base scan going, you can type ? to see
a menu of commands inside the base. If you type   s    at the message base
prompt, that base will be added to your new scan que.

/NEWSCAN

     This command can be excuted from any room in cyberspace and will look
at the bases you have in your newscan que and print out any new messages on
them, regardless of where the actual base is located.



                              Transfer Commands




Uploading files:

           You can upload a file from any room in cyberspace. Just type
           /create thing    then type      /upload thing   and follow the
           screen prompts.

Downloading files:

           You must be in the room with the file you wish to download. After
           finding out where that file is, type   /download <filename>

Playing online games:

            To play one of the online games (if the sysop has any installed)
            look at either the object box or the exit box, depending on what
            the sysop chose to use for the shuttle to the game, and type
            the object or exit name exactly as it appears.
            (Example: if the shuttle to the game tradewars is an exit called
            play tradewars, then type  play tradewars . If it is an object
            called chess board, then type   chess board.)


Sending and Receiving mail:
            
            To send mail, first type   /users    to see who is in cybespace
            and then type   /send <user name>. After cyberspace finds the
            target of the mail, it will allow you to enter a letter.

            To read mail, when you have recieved a notice that there is mail
            waiting for you, just type   /mail   and you will be able to
            read (and reply or delete if desired) the mail.


For more information on the basic commands, type /handbook if you are in
cyberspace or get a copy of handbook.doc from the sysop and study it.
Cyberspace is alot of fun after you learn what you can do in it and what
commands to use.
