neogenesis

"What," you may be asking, "is 'Neogenesis?'" We can't blame you; as far as we know it's not even a real word. What it is, however, is highly descriptive of what is going on here at Verbosity -- a major rebirth. With this rebirth comes a major retooling, as well. Now, let's start with how this evolved.

Many of you might have noticed that Verbosity went for a number of months without an issue after Issue 7, released in late March. During this period, we had a number of shake-ups that delayed us. First, our staff had a number of personal commitments to attend to that slowed down production. Secondly, we had fallen into a creative rut after seven issues. Then, there was the matter of a little threatened legal action by a certain perturbed party...but that's a different story.

Lastly, one of Verbosity's co-founders and editors, Corey Welton, chose recently to abandon the staff to pursue other projects. Hence, Verbosity was in a crunch of sorts. We were behind schedule, out of ideas, and short one editor. We realized that what the magazine needed was a jump-start -- a rebirth. Hence, Neogenesis.

Verbosity will now be heading in an entirely new direction. We're abandoning the traditional issue magazine format to try a system of "continuously updated" material. Some columns here will be updated once a week. Other articles and features will be updated fortnightly. Still others will merit update on a monthly basis. Therefore, there will be a wealth of new content every week here at Verbosity. No more staring at an issue for two months and reading outdated movie reviews while you're waiting for us to get an issue out. As for the content that gets replaced, it will be stored in our archive, which we promise to update regularly this time.

Of course, the flavor of Verbosity will remain the same. We're concerned above all with entertaining our readers. Sometimes, it will be through informative articles, at other times through humorous romps. Our foci will range from entertainment to cyberculture to politics, with everything in between included as well. We've also brought on some new staff to help bring you the new Verbosity. Kyle Scanlan, former [PTt] head writer, has moved into the editorial spot recently vacated. Meanwhile, individuals like Andy Couch, Brandon Barker, and Scott B will join "Evil" Doug Smith and Jane on the staff. Some of the old, familiar columns will be disappearing, but count on some new stuff to knock your socks off.

In essence, this is a second beginning for Verbosity. We're trying to abandon what was wrong in the past and add some things that are right. We want to know what you think about our new direction. Please drop us a line at verbosity@wiw.org and talk to us about it. We've got some big things planned for the future of Verbosity. We'd love to have you along for the ride...
